"Is that your emo face, or are you happy to see me?"

Nate blinks away from his contemplation of the ocean - It's a good centering focus, Nate. Redd used to say - and turns to face his girlfriend. Significant other. Whatever. She was smirking.

That wasn't a surprise.

"What?"

She laughed and slid over under his flesh arm, leaning her head on his chest. He smiled and cuddled her a little. Not that he'd admit to cuddling. Ever.

"You looked like you were contemplating blowing something up. And don't try and con me. I've seen you right before you blew something up."

"Nah." He sighed and looked out over the waves. Someday, this woman was going to be the one to put the bullet in his brain. She's going to be the only one to realize what he's doing. He wishes it could be different. That someone had just let him die one of the hundreds of other times he'd put himself in the position. But none of those had worked. He'd always flonqing lived.

And no one knew how angry that had made him. They would some day.

But not right now.

"Just remembering something Wade did last week."

Her laugh is beautiful in the dying sun. It's not enough, but he lets her think it is.
