"Daddy?" She asks him when she is five.

"Yes, Molly?" He has never liked nicknames or monikers. He calls her Molly because that is her name. 'Sweetie' and 'honey' and 'baby' are words he has used on occasion, but her face is serious and her eyes are wide, so he addresses her by Molly and waits for her question. It is the lot of a father and one he relishes.

Her face changes then, bright and pretty it stares up at him, like a flower facing the sun. "Do you love me?"

He can't help but hug her then. His little girl, already knowing the answer, but asking the question because she likes his response.

"More than salt," he whispers into her hair, and means it.
